About the Artist: Anthony M. Alonso is an internationally well known equine artist whose passion is creating fine arts paintings of famous thoroughbreds, their owners and their environment. Last summer Mr. Alonso celebrated his 30th consecutive Annual Equine Art Exhibit at The Gideon Putnam Hotel, Blue Room Gallery in Saratoga Springs, New York. The exhibit ran from July 27th to September 2nd, 2006. He has been represented by Frost & Reed – distinguished art dealers from London, England. They have exhibited some of his original oil paintings at The Sheraton Hotel in Saratoga Springs, NY, plus at their gallery in London, England. Anthony M. Alonso was featured in the December 2001 issue of the English magazine “Pacemaker” in an article entitled “Observing A World Within A World.” He also was one of the artists featured in the February 2000 issue of The American Artist Magazine. The article was titled “Painter of Champions.”
Alonso has had two retrospective exhibits of his work: The Kentucky Derby Museum exhibit was from April through June 1990. His equine art exhibit there was the first one ever acclaimed by the critics as “fine art ” - a breakthrough for the Museum. The second retrospective exhibit was held at The National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs - “A Quarter Century Retrospective” - July 20th through September 30th, 1996. A collection of 36 originals was borrowed from his collectors for this show, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the public. His paintings are in many private collections throughout the United States, Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Monaco, and Venezuela and The Virgin Islands.
Originals are also on permanent display in public collections at Arlington, Belmont, Churchill Downs, Laurel, Santa Anita & Woodbine Race Tracks, The National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame (who have three original oils by Alonso in their permanent collection) and the Seacoast National Bank, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Alonso is a graduate of both The High School of Music & Art in New York City and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY . He also studied at The Art Students League in New York under Samuel Oppenheim and John Howard Sanden.
