About the Art: Upon seeing Chinese American artist, Black Wind (Hei Feng), for the first time, someone once said that his appearance may be likened to the streams of Southern China - sparkling clear and with an air of Confucian scholarship. His character. on the other hand, is like the sweeping winds of North-Western China.. and his work is just like his temperament. The founder of' the Time-Centered Painting School, Black Wind started painting when he was merely 5 years old. Starting out as a classicist student of Chinese painting. he began to infuse his unique signature into his work. The art community first took note in 1985 during an exhibition in Beijing, China. His style, later known as Romantic Zen, with its successful fusion of Eastern and Western ideas. caused quite a stir. The event marked the debut of China's first enfant terrible". Black Wind is a native of Sichuan province. He was born in the village of Gansu on the sprawling highlands of Northwest China. Gansu is known in China not only as the starting point of the Great Wall but also the home of the famous Dunhuang cave paintings. Deserts. grasslands. snow-peaked mountains and the roaring Yellow River characterize this untamed land. He was endowed with a unique artistic gift along with an appreciation of balance in nature. In his paintings, even the tiniest insect is depicted as part of a delicate symbiotic relationship the Vast Universe. In particular, the women in his paintings display a poetic affinity with the world. He has held more than 30 exhibitions in China, France. Italy, Taiwan. Singapore. and the United States and has received Wide accolades. At a 1990 solo exhibition of his work in Los Angeles, Professor Ron Belying, art critic and historian, praised his style as one that is rich in traditional Chinese flavor and vet crosses cultural boundary. Chaise Cheman, chairman of the Visual Artists Association in the United States. regards him highly as an artist who can perfectly marry the spiritual and aesthetic values of art. He firmly believes that Black Wind will rise quickly among Chinese artists in mainstream American art."
