About The Artist: Douglas Brega was born on Christmas day, 1948, in Springfield, Massachusetts and grew up in the neighboring town of East Longmeadow. He studied at the Paier School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut and began to paint, seriously, in watercolor at the age of twenty-four being influenced by the work of American artists Winslow Homer, Thomas Eakins, and especially Andrew Wyeth who he has observed intensely. Doug has consciously studied how Wyeth's technique, talent, career, and the way in which he was able to make a living with his art. He read everything about Wyeth he could find and meticulously studied every painting Wyeth ever exhibited. Not surprisingly then, he is often compared to Wyeth, a comparison he takes to be a compliment. Doug has achieved international recognition for his realistic renderings of the people and places in New England.
