About the Artist: Alonso uses a mixed media technique with synthetic materials for collage and uses oil as a finish. Alonso expresses his absolute passion for painting by stating that "In my work one of the most gratifying activities consists of placing the portable sawhorse, paintings and utensils in my car and traveling through the towns and cities of Spain where I can participate in the plein-air painting contests. These contests allow me to give an emotional and personal vision of the village and landscapes." Alonso adds "My true inspiration is the pulsating life of cities with their monuments and their people- urban landscapes in movement." He describes his work as "exercising technique and inspiration, united in the need to express oneself and, more importantly, painting as a philosophy- a form to understand life." Alonso names Van Gogh as the most influential artist on his work as he feels that Van Gogh's "pictures are very strong, they are very emotional, they have a passion overflowing through them and the colors are fantastic." He is also fascinated by photography, and graphic design.
Alonso began to develop a passion for painting when he was fifteen years old in Santander, Spain. At a very early age, he discovered that he was best entertained viewing museum and gallery exhibitions rather than being at the movies with his friends. This passion for the fine arts marked the beginning of his relationship with painting. Alonso resides in Madrid where he also studied at La Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artisticos y Circulo de Bellas Artes.
On a personal note, Alonso loves to speak about his family as his wife and children support him 100% in his work and "they are definitely my pride" says Alonso. As an anecdote, Alonso says "I love to cook. For me it is like painting a picture and I enjoy very much surprising my family with fantastic dishes" and he laughs "I believe that is why my children have not left yet home."
