Artist Statement: I am nearing completion of six multi-canvas painting series in geometric abstraction. The series’ titles are Chintz !, The Daisy Garden, The Red Princess, The Wild Wild West !, The Summer Encampment, Geometrics !. These works are on canvas and painted with acrylic paint; with canvas collage, numerals and text. Their subjects: the art of our indigenous peoples, and the art of the westward settlers of North America - direct responses to the geography, the flora, the fauna, and to the events of this continent.
The Timeline / Chronology, in progress for the past six years, is an art history for those engaged in the serious study of the arts: architecture, sculpture, and painting. As the daughter and wife of sophisticated, urbane men I have traveled widely and view art history from a geo-political perspective. The politics, religion and art are presented by country. The following countries are studied: Africa, Anatolia, Arabia, Britannia, China, Egypt, Eire, Gaul, Germania, Hellas, Iberia, India, Italia, Japan, the Levant, Meso-America, Mesopotamia, North America, Russia, the Seven Seas, South America.
The Ribbons of Botticelli, an artistic echo of the winds of the Renaissance as seen in Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, is a new design. I have made them from my very extensive fabric sample collection, collected when I was a busy interior designer in Calgary. I am going to begin soon another series using the Maltese Cross as a motif - they will be in tapestry.
