About the Art: During the summer of 1983 Black Knight was the committee boat for the New York Yacht Club's last defense of the America's Cup. The painting was commissioned by Black Knight's owner. It depicts the start of the first race between Liberty and Australia II. It shows the race committee studying the two 12 meters just after they crossed the starting line. The painting was meant to be a portrait of a classically beautiful yacht. The event was of secondary interest.
