About the Artist: SHIRLEY CEAN YOUNGS grew up in beautiful upstate New York. Early on she found her expression in an impressionistic style of painting. A self-taught artist, Shirley's education came from hours of drawing, painting and studying works of the great masters. It was Robert Henri's words, "The artist is the man who leaves the crowd and goes pioneering...with him there is an idea which is his life," that kept her dedicated to ever increasing perfection. Shirley later had the privilege of studying under some of the foremost artists of our time, Daniel Greene, Robert Brackman and Charles Movalli to name a few. Shirley is a prominent member of the Pastel Society of America, and her work hangs in the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Shirley's love for life and people are apparent when you see her work, and is summed up in her own words, "Art, to me, is an expression too subtle for words. To be given this means of expression is a gift beyond value. When I am painting, serenity settles peacefully over my life and, hopefully, I express those pleasures to others to be enjoyed over again."
