About the Artist: A native of Connecticut, Gray Park started oil painting at a young age and majored in fine arts at The Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, CT. In 1994, he recieved his BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, where he focused on painting land and seascapes. During his studies he developed an appreciation for the works of Fairfield Porter, Edward Hopper, George Nick, and Wayne Thiebaus, and spent a year abroad painting the rugged coastline of Scotland and the countryside of England. Gray continues to be inspered by the changing scenery of Barn Island in Stonington and the surrounding marshes of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Although he maintains a studio in New London, CT the majority of his paintings are done en plein air, where Gray strives to capture the essence of the changing relationship between land and sea. His business, Overland Plein-Air, is a culmination of paintings, woodworking and welding, and include the restoration of vintage Willy's Overland Jeeps. Since 1989 Gray has participated in twelve group exhibitions, and five one-man shows, winning several major awards. As a young emerging artist, Gray's work has been well received in galleries and is a popular new force among collectors.
