About the Artist: Martin Grelle lives in a small town nestled in the gently rolling hills of central Texas. The beauty and anonymity of the area has provided inspiration and solace for the quiet man. It was here, after being mentored by Western artist Jim Boren, that Grelle discovered he had a gift for painting.
His passion for the Old West is evident in the striking landscape he portrays. Working in oil, Grelle wants viewers to feel a connection to his art that is warm and inviting. His quiet subtlety and attention to detail have made him one of the finest and most recognized of western artists, renowned for his painting of the contemporary West.
Grelle’s art reflects his admiration and respect for the cowboys of today. He owns three American Quarter Horses and frequently uses them as models. Grelle was chosen to be a member of the Cowboy Artist of America, a distinguished and respected honor among Western artists.
About the Edition: In 2002, Martin Grelle's "Monarchs of the North" won the People's Choice Award at the Cowboy Artists of America Sale and Exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum. The painting, a 46" x 60" oil on canvas, marked his second major award in that year. Earlier in the year, his "Teller of Tales" garnered the top award at the Prix de West Invitational at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Whereas "Teller of Tales" was a close up of three figures, "Monarchs of the North" features many more figures and a dramatic, mountain vista.
