We regard the police officer as someone to be wary of because he may be “out to get us.” Because we live in such a vast world where abuse of the law has created some skepticism on the part of both the public and the police, we would do well to be reminded of the high calling a police officer has. Here’s what Jesus said in His famous Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God” Matthew 5:9. Those peacemakers proved true to their calling on September 11th and continue to stand against the torrent of violence and crime that are ever present in today’s world.
