Artist:Bonnie Conrad Title:Old Days, New Ways Image Size:16.375" x 21.875" Edition:Hand Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Medium:Lithograph On Paper About the Artist:Bonnie began her career doing landscapes in oil but, after seeing the work of Ben Konis in 1987, she was moved to take up pastels thus putting the oils away for two years. Her pastels were vibrant in color and quickly won public acceptance. While she enjoyed immensely the color and freshness of pastels, she never lost her love for oils. At length, bowing to their beckoning, she was delighted to find herself painting with a whole new style! People often mistook her oils for pastels. As her career has matured she has leaned more and more to an impressionistic style. She is intrigued with a broad range of subject matter but is best known for her depiction of western life, contemporary Native American culture and studies of feminine figures, often in flowing dresses and accompanied by flowers or domestic fowl in a rural setting.
Conrad's western art often hangs with a poem written by her husband, Roger, whose writing was inspired by a Baxter Black performance. They call these the "Pen and Paint" series, the name suggesting a unique team; possibly the only husband/wife "pen and paint" team in the western US.
In 1998 Conrad entered the intense competition of the professional fine art world. She was awarded Best of Show in her first professional outing, which gave her the confidence to continue. Since that first time, she has been honored with many additional awards for excellence in fine art. She has self-published nine limited edition prints under the name of "Conrad Collection" and has placed many originals in private collections across the United States and Canada. In 1991 Art of the West magazine named her as one of the eight "artists to keep and eye on" and in May of 1996 she was invited to join the Western Academy of Women Artists (WAWA), as one of forty signature members dedicated to promoting awareness of the role women artists have played in our western cultural heritage. Selected limited edition prints from the group are being published exclusively by Art Boom Ltd., Los Angeles, California.
Conrad's work is motivated by color-the fascinating play between complements, the mysterious subtleties of gray tones and the endless possibilities for mood. The direction and manner of the strokes is intriguing to her as well and through the use of these elements Conrad works to evoke an emotional response from her viewer. She wants the art enthusiast to hear the drumbeat and feel the excitement radiating from dancing Indians; to re-live the tenderness of a mother-child relationship, or to taste the dust and feel the sun on their face as they view a western ranch scene.
Conrad is deeply concerned that her work should always lift the human spirit. Her use of light, design color and choice of subjects combine in a form of beauty to which the human spirit must respond and in responding, expand and lighten. Her summary of the whole issue is, "I want the world to be a finer, lighter, brighter place for my having painted here". Description: All Prints are sale priced everyday!
