Detailed Description : This classic bronze depicts a victorious David resheathing his sword after slaying Goliath, whose head lies on the ground beneath David's foot. The piece was originally sculpted by the French master Marius-Jean-Antoine Mercié (1845-1916). "David After the Combat", also known as "David Vainqueur", brought Mercié a Medal of the First Class, and the Croix de la Légion d' Honneur, making him the only artist to receive it while still an a student. An example was commissioned by the French state and exhibited at the World Exhibitions in Vienna in 1873 and Paris in 1878. This example is today to be found in the Musée d' Orsay in Paris.

The artwork is mounted onto a marble base, stands 32" high, and is signed "A Mercie" in the bronze. It has been crafted from the finest pure bronze in our own California art foundry, and features a deep, rich patina in the classical tradition. This is truly a stunning work of art that will endure to be treasured by many generations to come.
