About the Artist: Valeri Metlyaev's work covers a particularly broad scope of medias and techniques including portraits, landscapes, composites, monumental and decorative sculpture, murals, jewelry and restoration of paintings. His paintings present a mixed sense of reality with a realistic and symmetrical composition, delivered in mystical colors and an enchanted hue.

Valeri Metlyaev was born in the Soviet Union in 1948. He studied at the ‘Rapine Republican College of Art' in Kishenev where he learned painting and drawing. Upon graduation, Metlyaev started working as a teacher at a children's art school, sharing his knowledge of decorative and applied art with young artists. He continued his studies at the ‘National Institute of Art' in Kishenev, focusing on sculpture, painting and drawing.

Soon Metlyaev became the manager of an art workshop, was invited to design stained glass windows and store interiors, and developed commercials for television and the cinema. During these years, Metlyaev was also employed making jewelry and other handicrafts at a handicraft factory. After completing his studies at the ‘National Institute for the Science of Restoration', he worked at the ‘Republican Museum of History of Religion', restoring paintings and icons. During all these years of his career, Metlyaev participated in various exhibitions all over his native Republic. However, in 1992 Metlyaev decided to immigrate to Israel. After settling there, he participated in an exhibition honoring Israeli soldiers who had fallen in battle during the 20th century. His works won first prize.

Metlyaev's art is bought and collected throughout the world and today his work is part of private collections in Israel, the United States and Canada.
