About the Art: Black bear is a relatively common species in North America and more so in Smith's home state of Montana where he is fortunate to be able to do field work practically (and sometimes actually) outside his back door. Scent of Spring was painted for the 2015 Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale at the prestigious Autry National Center in Los Angeles, CA. This exhibition challenges 75 nationally recognized artists to exhibit their very best work. Dan has been honored to be included for 12 years running, the last two years his son, Adam, also participated.
