About the Artist: Don Li-Leger's rich and varied career as an artist began in British Columbia, where he has painted since childhood, focusing initially on the wildlife of his native province. His early studies in botany, plant ecology and natural history influence his current imagery, as does his keen interest in oriental art and abstract painting. His distinctive East-meets-West style is gaining an ever-increasing audience, with many sell-out shows. The artist explains his rich and subtle use of color: "I was involved in a group show involving awareness of the situation in Tibet. We painted the walls gold and burgundy, the colors of wisdom and compassion. These colors, in all their infifinite variations, have remained prominent in my present work. My choice of color is intuitive and I often change colors in the process, because color relationships are very important and can make or break a painting." When Li-Leger starts a painting, he often doesn't know what direction it will take, preferring to find the journey in the act of discovery. His goal is to be freely expressive, pure and spontaneous, using fewer brushstrokes to say more. He is meditative when he paints, drawing upon the deep universal well of common symbology and images to create works that connect profoundly with the minds and hearts of his audience.
