About the Artwork
When Faeries Talk to Fishes is an original hand‑tinted stone lithograph by James C. Christensen, created at the Magic Fish Studio. The work began as an unfinished verse in the artist’s sketchbook: “When Faeries talk with Fishes, both express their wishes / When Fishes talk to Faeries, the conversation varies . . . .” Soon a drawing appeared above the lines, and the initial idea evolved into a full lithograph.
James drew the image directly onto a 300 lb. limestone, creating the picture in reverse on the stone. The image is then transferred by hand onto fine watercolor paper using a lithographic press, so each print is considered an original because the final image does not exist in this form until it is produced. Hand‑tinting these lithographs predates modern color printing, and because each color is applied by hand, no two prints are exactly alike. Gallery Direct Art is proud to offer this special Artist’s Proof in either amber or pastel hand‑tinted palettes.
