About the Art:One of the most noted golf courses built in America during the Great Depression, Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is the venue for the 101st US Open. Designed in 1935 by Perry Maxwell, the central design philosophy tenet was to enhance nature, not to disturb it. At Southern Hills, Maxwell began with a beautiful piece of land and drew from it's rolling hills a golf course of truly remarkable caliber.The year 2001 marks Southern Hills Country Club's third time as host club for the US Open. The Open was also held at Southern Hills in 1958 and 1977.Renowned American golf landscape artist Linda Hartough has captured the beauty and challenge of the 12th hole at Southern Hillls, considered one of America's greatest par 4's by both Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan.
