About the Artist: John Michael Carter was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began his first studies in drawing at the age of 16 with his father E.L. Carter, a commercial artist. He received a B.F.A. degree from the Art Center College of Design with a background in the major classical schools of painting.
Carter has shown his work through numerous one-man shows across the country. He has exhibited with Grand Central Gallery in New York; the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma; the Amarillo Art Center in Amarillo, Texas; the Deville Gallery in Los Angeles, California; the J. Todd Gallery in Wellesley, Massachusetts; and the Meyer Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Carter currently paints full time in a studio near the workshop where his wife Barbara, handcrafts gilded frames for original paintings. He paints for several originals galleries, national shows, and special corporate and personal commission projects.
