“There's a magic to huge paintings that lets you just step inside the scene when you get it up close. I love painting big! I had the idea jotted down in sketchbooks in pencil but didn't have any idea what color to make it until I tried a few oil sketches on some oil painting pads. The joy of working from imagination when I can is that I can rest in knowing it's 100% me coming up with it! It's also such a free way to work, as I can decide what time of day, positions of critters and background as I go along. I tried cloudy, mid-day and golden hour and went with the lower light idea to increase the visual interest with deeper colors and shadows.”
