In Carousel Neiman's powerful brush stroke and kaleidoscopic palette captures our imagination. His fanciful, magical, mythical wooden horses burst from the picture plane.
Horses in greens, blues, oranges, yellows and reds leap round and round. With their long noble heads, aristocratic bone structure and agility they combine majesty, grace and power. The serigraph pulsates with energy inviting us to mount the steeds and gallop away.
The artist was first captivated in the 1950's by the merry-go-round at Chicago's Riverside Amusement Park. Carved in wood and then hand painted by a 19th century German sculptor, the colors playfully swirl around as the steeds circle rhythmically piston like, ascending and descending.
For LeRoy Neiman no other animal compares to the horse in regal nobility and beauty. The grandeur and strength of horses enthralled him. He studied the horse paintings of the masters: Leonardo, Rubens, Bernini, Delacroix and Gericault. The rich history and pageantry of Carousel's dates back to the Byzantine empire; later it was perfected in countries throughout Europe and America.
For Neiman collectors young and old, the wondrous enchantment of Carousel is a must.
