About the Art: WEST CHESTER, PA. January 1, 2000 - As snow falls gently on the brick sidewalks the town is quiet...for now. But soon, the people of West Chester will awaken to begin a new century.

For over 200 years. West Chester has been a beloved home to so many who have passed by.. .and chose to remain. Their lives and hard work are reflected in the quiet, unspoken strength of this historic county seat - and most important - in the hearts of its people.

This magnificent new painting by renowned watercolorist Richard Bollinger, created in honor of West Chester's 200th Birthday Celebration, is a tribute to those who helped build this town...and those who will shape its future. Both known and unknown, every person is important to the new century ahead.

Twisting and turning, the tiny river makes its way through the historic Brandywine Valley. Winding south from Pennsylvania into Delaware, landmarks of granite cliffs, tranquil farms and meadows accentuate the shoreline. Secluded wooded coves, like the one painted by watercolorist, Richard Bollinger, appear along its banks. Set against the backdrop of early twilight, this secret place is the subject of Bollinger's recent release. "Brandywine Crossing" has been faithfully reproduced on acid free paper and personally signed and numbered by the artist. Born in Delaware County, Richard Bollinger grew up in Lansdowne, PA. He attended art school at the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia, and began his art career as a commercial artist at a Philadelphia design company in 1969. After freelancing for a few years illustrating children's books, Bollinger took a job as an art director at a small agency in Chester County. There, he experienced his baptism by fire into the commercial world, and began to develop his watercolor style. When his first solo show in 1976 sold out, it provided the springboard for him to switch from commercial arts to fine arts. Richard Bollinger began to devote his time and talent to his painting. Working as both illustrator and designer, the artist has received numerous awards for his graphics, which have appeared in local as well as national publications.
