About the Artist:
Sir James Pennethorne was a nineteenth century architect, who produced some striking paintings of his favourite buildings.
He spent the majority of his life in London, where he took an active role in creating and preserving parks and open spaces.
He produced a detailed plan for Battersea Park in South London on the banks of the Thames, which today proves an oasis of greenery amongst the surrounding buildings. His piece de resistance in the park was the large artificial boating lake.
