About the Artist:
Eugene Pechaubes was born in 1890 in Pantin, a commune in the northeastern suburbs of Paris.
Pechaubes developed an interest in horses early in life, and attended many races, particularly at the Parisian racecourses of Longchamp and Auteuil. In his early career, Pechaubes was primarily known as a painter of military subjects, especially those relating to the period of the Second Empire.
He also achieved success painting scenes of polo and horse racing, and received acclaim for his depiction of the Grand Steeple-Chase Tourant at Longchamp. Later in his career, he became increasingly devoted to precise studies of race horses, as he was often commissioned to execute portraits of the most famous and celebrated horses by both their owners and fans.
Pechaubes died in his native France in 1967.
