About the Artist:
Henri Fantin-Latour was born in 1836 and is now considered to be one of the greatest and most significant French painters and lithographers of the nineteenth century.
Fantin-Latour is particularly well known for his beautiful paintings of flowers, but he also painted portraits, including a number of famous group portraits of other eminent artists of his time, including Renoir, Manet and Whistler.
Although Fantin-Latour associated himself with progressive artists like the Impressionists, his own style of painting was much more traditionalist and much of his later career was devoted to lithography, rather than painting.
He died in 1904.
