• Like my uncle and father before me I am drawn to the Smoky Mountains. There is so much to experience in that Tennessee wildland that it was a delightful challenge trying to capture it all on a single canvas. The magic haze found in discovered vistas, the mountain menagerie well met in the dense and colored fauna, and the hill-country culture expressed by the people who revel in the hills and hallows of this wooded surround all add to the joy of heart and the peace of spirit I feel while visiting. Black Bear Cottage attempts to translate my emotional tie and spiritual awakening to its viewer. From the old red truck and the wood carvers’ handcraft to the audience of critters sharing a home in my cabin to the spirits of nature held in the mist, all that make the Smokies so special are revealed for your examination. I hope this painting is an inspiration to those who have never visited this place and an affirmation for those who already have.
