About the Artist:
Born in 1696, Michele Marieschi was a native of Venice but spent the first part of his life in Germany, where his works are much esteemed. On his return to Venice, he painted numerous remarkable views of the city, several of which he also etched, and for which he is best known today.
His works L'Entree du Grand Canal, Venise and Santa Maria della Salute sold together in June 1964 for the sum of £8,000, a figure which would be multiplied many times if these masterpieces were to be sold at auction today.
