About the Artist:
He was an Austrian painter who was born in Prague, where he studied until 1858.
He then became a student at the Prague Academy and subsequently moved to the Viennese Academy of Art and then to the Munich Academy.
His first critical success was in 1867, with a painting entitled "Martyr of the Cross" and in 1869 he moved to Munich, where he had a studio in the winter and in the summer he went to Ammerland at Starnberger Lake. He was a professor of historical painting in Munich from 1879 - 1883 and in 1900 he was ennobled. He subsequently died in Munich in 1915.
