About the Artist:

Born in Portsmouth, England in 1833, George Vicat Cole was a landscape painter who often painted fishing subjects.

From an artistic background, he was the eldest son of George Cole, an animal, sporting and landscape painter, and he was also the father of Rex Vicat Cole.

George Vicat Cole exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1853 and 1892 and became a Royal Academician in 1880. He died in 1893.
