About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:

Lucy Dawson, who also worked under the pseudonym Mac, was born in England and lived in Bristol until about 1930.

Dawson worked in pencil, pen, ink and oil, but was probably best known for her work in pastels. An absence of background clutter ensures that the animal becomes the focal point of her work.

She enjoyed regular commissions including one by the Royal Family who took her to the Royal Lodge at Windsor to paint their favourite Corgi, Dookie, which was later reproduced as a family Christmas card for the Windsors.

She primarily painted dogs, but occasionally cats and in reality, she was a member of that great and wide family of dog lovers.
