About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:

Paul Nash (1889-1946) was a British Surrealist painter and war artist as well as a photographer, writer and designer of applied art. Nash was among the most important landscape artists of the first half of the 20th Century and he played a key role in the development of Modernism in English art. During his career Nash saw himself as a successor to J.M.W. Turner and to William Blake which was quite accurate and he attempted to capture the spirit of the English countryside. He served in the First World War as a soldier and his war paintings are regarded as being strikingly honest about the devastating effects of war and particularly its impact on the landscape. He was a conservative person, however with a great interest in both Surrealism and Cubism together with Abstraction and he has been described as a `subtle radical`.
