About the Artist:
Le Sidaner was born in 1862 in Port-Louis, France, and demonstrated his gift for painting at an early age. Encouraged by his father, Le Sidaner attended the Notre Dame des Dunes College and also took additional classes with Alexandre Desmidt.
Shortly after his father's death in 1880, Le Sidaner moved to Paris, where he studied at the Beaux-Arts school and observed the influence of the Impressionists on painting techniques. He began to exhibit at the Salon from 1887, combining short trips in Europe and the Mediterranean with painting for the next ten years.
Le Sidaner was elected an Officer of La Legion d'Honneur and an exhibition of his work was opened by Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth in 1931.
In 1937 Le Sidaner was elected President of L'Académie des Beaux-Arts. Two years later he died in Paris. Georges Huisman, Minister of Beaux-Arts, said that the art world should "mourn the death of a great artist".
