About the Artist:
Viggo Johansen was a genre painter, born in Copenhagen in 1851.
He was a pupil of the Academy of Copenhagen and won many notable awards during his lifetime, including medals at exhibitions in Munich in 1889 and in Berlin in 1891, and a Gold Medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1899.
His work today is held in many museums around the world, but it is particularly well known in Scandinavia and in the country of his birth, Denmark.
Specialising particularly in genre scenes and in scenes of mealtimes, Viggo Johansen made a successful career in the art world before his death in 1935.
