About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:

Edward John Gregory was born in 1850 in Southampton.

After his education, he entered the drawing office of the P&O Steamship Company but decided to give up this career to become a professional artist. He moved to London in 1869 to study at the RCA and later at the Royal Academy Schools, and was subsequently employed at the Victoria & Albert Museum and, later, at “The Graphic” newspaper.

Edward Gregory’s works were exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1875 and he was later elected a Member of the Royal Academy on the basis of perhaps his most famous work, Boulters Lock, which is now held by the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight.

Edward Gregory died in 1909.
