About the Artist:
This Austrian artist was also known as Hans Canon, which was a pseudonym he often used in his careers as an Austrian history portrait painter.
He was born in Vienna where he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts, before becoming an officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army. It is thought that the word `Canon` may have been adopted after his service in the Artillery.
He travelled in England, France, Italy and the Middle East and then lived in Germany for a number of years before returning to Vienna where there is a street named after him in the district of Favoriten.
