About the Artist:

The famous Dutch artist and engraver, Romain de Hooghe was born in approximately 1646 and produced a number of beautiful maps which were published in various prestigious atlases in the 17th and early 18th century.

In particular, he is well known for some of the charts he created for Pieter Mortier’s Atlas Maritime, which was published in 1693.

De Hooghe, who also worked in the service of King William III in England, died in 1708.
