About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:

Jacob de la Feuille was a member of a prominent French cartographic family of the 17th century.

His father, Daniel, lived between 1640 and 1709 and moved from Sedan to settle in Amsterdam in around 1683. There, he built up a business as an art dealer, engraver and publisher of books and maps.

Daniel de la Feuille’s first major atlas was published in 1702 under the title Atlas Portatif ou Le Théatre de la Guerre en Europe. He was succeeded on his death in 1709 by his two sons, Jacob (1668-1719) and Paul (1688-1727). Jacob’s principal publication was an atlas of around 100 maps by Dutch and French cartographers, issued in approximately 1710.
